Samara Aerospace Raises Oversubscribed $10M Seed Round To Scale Spacecraft Production And Launch Its First Mission, Hummingbird-1
Samara Aerospace has closed an oversubscribed $10 million seed funding round, led by Balerion Space Ventures, to scale spacecraft manufacturing and accelerate the launch of its first mission, Hummingbird-1, targeted for 2027.
The round also included participation from Illinois Ventures, MFV Partners, Access Venture Partners, and other strategic investors.
Samara plans to use the capital to rapidly expand operations within its new 11,200 square-foot production facility, adding staff and equipment to increase manufacturing capacity and shorten delivery timelines for future missions. The company will also double its team size and upgrade its production line.
Unlike traditional satellites that rely on reaction wheels for orientation, Samara’s Hummingbird Spacecraft uses articulated solar panel hinges to maneuver spacecraft. This approach significantly reduces vibration and jitter, improving image clarity and pointing accuracy. According to the company, the system can deliver up to 1,000x greater stability than conventional designs while also reducing satellite size and mass.
As part of its next phase, Samara is now accepting applications for hosted payload opportunities aboard Hummingbird-1, offering government and commercial customers a fast and flexible path to orbit on a high-performance, mission-ready spacecraft platform.
