York Space Systems Acquires Solestial, Inc. to Strengthen U.S. Space Solar Supply Chain
York Space Systems has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Solestial, expanding York’s vertically integrated space infrastructure strategy with next-generation solar power capabilities.
The acquisition gives York direct access to Solestial’s ultrathin, radiation-hardened silicon solar technology, including its self-healing solar cells designed specifically for the harsh space environment.
The move also strengthens York’s domestic manufacturing footprint while reducing reliance on Chinese-controlled materials and foreign supply chains for critical spacecraft subsystems.
Headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, Solestial has developed flexible, low-mass solar modules engineered for long-duration missions and scalable production.
The company says its technology offers a lower-cost alternative to legacy III-V solar systems while maintaining high performance in orbit.
York CEO Dirk Wallinger said the acquisition reinforces York’s long-term investment in U.S.-based manufacturing and resilient supply chains for national security and commercial missions.
Meanwhile, Solestial CEO Margo de Naray said the partnership will help accelerate production capacity and broaden deployment across future space missions.
The acquisition follows York’s recent push to expand its vertically integrated space ecosystem, including prior acquisitions focused on communications and mission-critical infrastructure.
