Impulse Space Awarded $28 Million Contract Extension for VICTUS SALO Missions

Impulse Space has been awarded a $28 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III contract extension from the U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command (SSC) Space Safari Office.

The contract supports the VICTUS SALO 2 and VICTUS SALO 3 missions and builds on Impulse’s existing work for the VICTUS SALO 1 and VICTUS SURGO missions.

The Victus Salo missions are a series of U.S. Space Force Tactically Responsive Space (TacRS) demonstrations. Managed by Space Systems Command’s Space Safari program, they utilize maneuverable commercial orbital transfer vehicles built by Impulse Space to test rapid orbital responses, maneuvering, and space domain awareness in low Earth orbit (LEO).

Under the contract, Impulse will provide two Mira spacecraft to host government-supplied payloads in low Earth orbit.

Mira is designed for high-thrust, precise maneuvering and provides up to 850 m/s of delta-v for a 100-kilogram payload using eight Saiph chemical propulsion thrusters.

Eric Romo, President and COO of Impulse Space, said increasing complexity in space operations is making on-orbit maneuverability increasingly important. He said Mira’s high delta-v and maneuverability can support the Space Force’s efforts to improve the tactical responsiveness of assets in orbit.

VICTUS SALO 2 and 3 will follow VICTUS SALO 1, which is currently scheduled to launch in 2027.
