Intuitive Machines To Acquire Lanteris Space Systems In $800M Deal To Expand Multi-Orbit and Lunar Capabilities
Houston-based Intuitive Machines (NASDAQ: LUNR) announced it will acquire Lanteris Space Systems, formerly Maxar Space Systems, for $800 million, marking one of the most significant consolidation moves in the U.S. space industry this year. The transaction includes $450 million in cash and $350 million in stock, and is expected to close in Q1 2026 pending regulatory approval.
The combined company will have over $850 million in annual revenue, $920 million in backlog, and positive adjusted EBITDA, positioning Intuitive Machines as a vertically integrated “next-generation space prime” capable of designing, manufacturing, and operating missions across LEO, GEO, lunar, Martian, and deep-space domains.
Lanteris brings a strong track record in spacecraft manufacturing for national security, civil, and commercial programs, complementing Intuitive Machines’ lunar and infrastructure portfolio.
CEO Stephen Altemus said the deal marks Intuitive Machines’ transition from a lunar company to a multi-domain space prime, while Chairman Kam Ghaffarian framed it as a response to the convergence of civil, commercial, and defense space priorities.
Advent International, Lanteris’ current owner, will retain an equity position in the merged company.
The acquisition follows Intuitive Machines’ recent deep-space navigation acquisition of KinetX, a $622M cash position, and continued execution across NASA and DoD contracts including CLPS, OMES, and Near Space Network Services.
The company aims to strengthen its presence in major programs such as the Space Development Agency’s layered architecture, NASA’s Artemis and Lunar Terrain Vehicle contracts, and the Golden Dome missile defense initiative.
The deal was advised by Barclays and Perella Weinberg
