U.S. Space Force Awards 12 Companies Up to $3.2B in Golden Dome Contracts for Space-Based Interceptors

The U.S. Space Force has awarded contracts worth up to $3.2 billion to 12 companies to develop prototypes for space-based missile interceptors under the Golden Dome initiative. The program aims to demonstrate operational capability by 2028.

The 12 companies include:

Anduril Industries
Booz Allen Hamilton
General Dynamics Mission Systems
GITAI
Lockheed Martin
Northrop Grumman
Quindar
RTX
SciTec
SpaceX
True Anomaly
Turion Space

The contracts were issued under an Other Transaction Authority framework, allowing for faster procurement and increased participation from commercial firms.

The Golden Dome program focuses on developing space-based interceptors capable of destroying missiles outside Earth’s atmosphere, a capability that remains largely unproven.

The initiative reflects growing urgency within the Department of Defense to counter increasingly advanced missile threats with faster and more flexible acquisition strategies.

The awards also highlight the expanding role of commercial space and defense technology companies in national security programs, particularly as the Pentagon looks to leverage innovation from both established contractors and newer entrants to address evolving threats.
