SpaceX Wins $946 Million NASA Contract Extension for Three Additional Crew Missions to the ISS

SpaceX has won three additional crew transportation missions from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration to the International Space Station (ISS), extending the company’s Commercial Crew Transportation Capability (CCtCap) contract.

The $946 million modification covers the Crew-15, Crew-16 and Crew-17 missions and brings SpaceX’s total number of missions under the contract to 17.

The firm-fixed-price modification covers the full range of services required for each mission, including ground operations, launch, in-orbit support, return and recovery, cargo transportation and lifeboat capability while the spacecraft is docked to the ISS.

The contract modification has a period of performance through 2030, with mission readiness dates scheduled across 2027 and 2028. It brings the total value of NASA’s CCtCap contract with SpaceX to $5.92 billion.

The additional missions are intended to maintain NASA’s regular crew transportation capability to the ISS while preserving two commercial crew providers.

NASA originally awarded CCtCap contracts to SpaceX and Boeing in 2014 through its Commercial Crew Program.

SpaceX was certified for NASA crew transportation in November 2020 and has since flown multiple crew rotation missions using its Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket.

Dragon can transport up to four astronauts along with cargo to the station. The company’s Crew-12 mission is currently in orbit at the ISS.
