SpaceX Announces New $100 Billion Louisiana Launch Facility for Starship

SpaceX has announced plans to invest $100 billion in a new launch facility in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, which the company says will become its largest launch site.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the first launch targeted as early as 2029. The site is intended to support increased Starship launch activity and could eventually include five launch complexes with two launch pads each.

The project is expected to create approximately 3,000 direct jobs over the next decade, with Louisiana Economic Development estimating more than 8,100 additional indirect jobs.

The development will include vehicle processing, propellant production and storage, power generation, and other infrastructure to support launch operations.

Elon Musk said the facility is intended to help make spaceflight more routine and support the company's longer-term goals for missions to the Moon and Mars.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry called the investment a significant milestone for the state and said the project would create new opportunities for workers and businesses across the region.

The state has offered SpaceX an incentives package tied to investment and job creation, including participation in Louisiana's aerospace and high-impact jobs programs.

SpaceX has also agreed to a local payment-in-lieu-of-taxes arrangement totaling more than $820 million over 25 years, alongside a $20 million upfront payment.
