Rhea Space Activity raises ~$6M Series A to scale its GPS-independent AutoNav software for resilient navigation in defense and space applications.

Rhea Space Activity has raised approximately $6 million in a Series A funding round backed by Boston Global Group, Iron Prairie Ventures, Blackbird Capital Group, SpaceFund, and several other investors.

The funding will support the expansion of its GPS-independent navigation software, AutoNav, across U.S. and allied defense and intelligence customers.

The company’s AutoNav platform is designed to operate in GPS-denied environments by using optical navigation techniques. Instead of relying on satellite signals, the system analyzes images of celestial and orbital objects, including satellites, planets, and asteroids, to determine position and movement. This approach is intended to provide resilience in environments where GPS signals may be disrupted, degraded, or unavailable.

Originally developed for deep space missions, AutoNav has heritage from multiple NASA programs and has since been adapted for terrestrial and near-Earth defense applications.

The company is now focused on deploying the technology across allied frameworks such as AUKUS, Five Eyes, and NATO, where demand for alternative positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) solutions is increasing.

The new capital will be used to scale production, accelerate hiring, and strengthen supply chains to meet growing demand for resilient navigation systems.

Rhea Space Activity is also working to further validate and productize its platform across a range of mission environments, including contested operational domains.

As reliance on GPS remains widespread across both civilian and military systems, the development of alternative navigation technologies is becoming a strategic priority.

Rhea Space Activity positions its software as a complementary capability that enhances operational continuity and situational awareness when traditional navigation infrastructure is compromised.
