Phantom Space Acquires Thermal Management Technologies to Support Orbital Data Centers

Phantom Space Corporation announced it has acquired Thermal Management Technologies (TMT), a company specializing in advanced satellite thermal components. The acquisition is aimed at strengthening Phantom’s vertical integration strategy and supporting development of its orbital data center initiative, Phantom Cloud.

TMT brings decades of experience in designing and manufacturing thermal systems for aerospace and defense applications. By integrating these capabilities, Phantom Space seeks to better manage the thermal requirements of high-performance satellites, particularly for its upcoming Block I Phantom Cloud spacecraft. Thermal control is a critical component for satellites handling compute-intensive workloads in orbit.

Phantom Cloud is part of the company’s broader effort to build an integrated space-based data ecosystem, including a platform referred to as the Space App Store. The system is intended to enable satellite operators, developers, and data providers to process and monetize data directly in orbit. The addition of TMT’s technology is expected to enhance system reliability and expand the range of supported applications.

CEO Jim Cantrell said the acquisition aligns with the company’s long-term vision of enabling scalable, data-driven infrastructure in space.

TMT will continue operating as a subsidiary, with founder Scott Schick remaining as general manager and working closely with Phantom’s engineering team on spacecraft development.

The move follows Phantom Space’s ongoing expansion across launch vehicles and satellite manufacturing.

By bringing key technologies in-house, the company aims to maintain tighter control over its supply chain while advancing its orbital infrastructure strategy within the U.S. space industrial base.
