L3Harris has been selected by the U.S. Space Force to build 18 missile tracking satellites for the Golden Dome initiative, expanding its role in next-generation space-based missile defense.

L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a contract worth approximately $955 million by the U.S. Space Force's Space Development Agency (SDA) to build 18 Accelerated Missile Defense Tranche 3 (AMDT3) satellites in support of the Golden Dome missile defense initiative.

The satellites will provide missile warning and tracking capabilities designed to detect advanced hypersonic and ballistic missile threats.

Each spacecraft will carry medium-field-of-view infrared payloads capable of delivering fire-control quality tracking data.

L3Harris said production will begin immediately at its expanded manufacturing facility in Indiana and satellite integration center in Florida.

The award builds on the company's previous work for the Missile Defense Agency, including its Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) demonstration satellite.

CEO Christopher Kubasik said the company invested in manufacturing capacity ahead of demand and is prepared to rapidly deliver the next generation of missile defense satellites to support U.S. national security.
