Gilmour Space Technologies Joins Starfish Space’s On-Orbit Docking Mission in Major Satellite Servicing Milestone
Gilmour Space Technologies has been selected by Starfish Space as the docking partner for the next phase of the Otter Pup 2 mission, marking another step forward for on-orbit servicing and satellite docking technologies.
The mission will see Starfish Space’s Otter Pup 2 spacecraft conduct rendezvous, proximity operations, and a planned docking attempt with Gilmour Space’s ElaraSat MMS-1 satellite in orbit.
These capabilities are viewed as critical for the future of satellite servicing, orbital logistics, debris removal, and sustainable space operations.
Head of Satellites Mark Grimminck (Gilmour Space) said the partnership is a strong endorsement of the satellite capabilities being developed in Australia and provides valuable operational experience for the company’s growing satellite division.
Meanwhile, Trevor Bennett (Co-Founder Starfish Space) highlighted the technical complexity of docking and proximity operations, noting that these capabilities will become increasingly important as space infrastructure scales globally.
The collaboration also supports Gilmour Space’s broader ambitions to expand Australian sovereign space capabilities across launch, satellites, and advanced orbital operations through programs including its Eris launch vehicle and Bowen Orbital Spaceport.
