Astranis has secured a $468 million credit facility from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) to expand domestic satellite manufacturing and support the deployment of next-generation geostationary orbit (GEO) communications satellites.
The financing is intended to help the company increase production capacity as it expands its global customer base across commercial and government markets.
The company is building dedicated GEO satellites for customers seeking sovereign connectivity infrastructure, positioning its smaller spacecraft as an alternative to traditional commercial satellite systems.
Existing customers include Gulf Space Technology in Thailand, Chunghwa Telecom Co, Ltd. in Taiwan, MB Group in Oman, stc group in Saudi Arabia and the U.S. government.
EXIM is coordinating with NASA's Office of Strategic Space Finance, which works to attract private capital into U.S. space and aerospace supply chains.
Astranis CEO and co-founder John Gedmark said the financing will allow the company to increase production in the United States, fulfill existing orders and pursue additional international contracts while expanding its work in GEO.
EXIM Chairman John Jovanovic said the bank's financing is intended to strengthen U.S. competitiveness in strategically important space technologies and manufacturing.
